Absolutely not!*
*depending on the role! User experience is a large field, and the title "UX Designer" can indicate a combination of a lot of different skill sets.
If you're looking to be a UX Designer that does everything — user research, prototyping, visual design, development, or some combination of those skills — then you don't need a degree, as long as you have the following:
A portfolio you've designed (and preferably developed!)
5–10 case studies of designs
A little bit of working experience. Hackathons, freelance, open source, and internships all count!
